"6 WT. Sockeye"

–Alaska’s Red Salmon–

While high-stick drifting a deep run of Quartz Creek on the Kenai Peninsula for trout, I hooked up with one of my more memorable catches. My 6 wt. fly rod was severely abused while this “fire truck” forced me down stream in hot pursuit. In the misty evening light this Red Salmon was screaming scarlet and gold-green– an absolute perfect specimen. This piece commemorates the long-time dream to catch such a fish which to me truly symbolizes Alaska. I removed my small custom painted bead from the roof of his toothy maw and released him in a quiet pool to rejoin his girlfriend and pass on his considerable genetics.
