"Lake Creek Leopard Bow"
One of the most exciting fly fishing techniques that I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing was on Lake Creek in South Central Alaska. Drifting beads behind the big spawning Chinook Salmon for extremely aggressive Rainbow Trout left me with hands shaking and a heart condition. In August the action can be that fast and furious. In this wilderness area of Alaska all Rainbow Trout must be released and strangely some of those landed showed signs of previously being hooked. I, for one, totally agree with this type of fisheries management and applaud the state for its efforts and long-range views. While I was hard-pressed to land a rainbow of 20”, several were close to it and very thick for their length. Some of these trout are so richly colored and heavily spotted that they’re called “Leopard Bows”.
