"September's Temper"
–Chinook Salmon–
One of my annual forays takes me to Northern Lake Huron. In early September the King Salmon begin staging near shore around river mouths. These big fish will first move shallow throughout the night creating an unusual angling opportunity. We use camera strobes to flash glow in the dark spoons. The salmon really like to bite this offering and the action can be absolutely insane. This painting represents a large, brassy-colored King that we nick-named "The Croc". The light spinning tackle was put to the test as he circled the boat many times before coming to the net. It was 11:30 p.m. when I caught this fish so I had to envision what the strike must have looked like in the darkness.
