“Ted Knott Bamboo”

-Grand River Brown Trout-

On a bright, sunny June day, fishing the Blue-Ribbon waters of the Upper Grand River in Southern Ontario, guide and fly shop owner John Valk gave a clinic on “Fly Fishing Diligence”. This painting portrays that “Perfect” Brown Trout so gingerly landed by John with his trusty 2 wt.. At his side through most of the day, I witnessed an angler who cherished the challenge this particular fish had laid down. After a relentless hour of presenting countless patterns, the big fish continued rising a rod’s length in front of us. Many anglers, including myself, would’ve given up and searched out a more willing participant, but John seemed hell-bent on figuring it out. While many smaller trout were landed that day, the big payoff came to a #18 “Disco Midge” and the Brown that finally wanted to dance.
